Tea App Photo Search: How to Check Tea With Your Own Photo

Men can't search inside the Tea app, so a photo search happens from the outside. Tea App Checker can compare a clear photo of your face with the faces in the Tea posts it can see. A photo often finds a post that a name search misses. This guide covers when to use a photo, which photo works best, and how your photo is handled.

Key facts
- A Tea app photo search compares your face with the faces in Tea post photos it can see.
- A photo can find posts that use a nickname, a misspelled name or no name.
- Only add a photo of yourself, or of someone you are legally allowed to act for.
- The photo is optional. You can search by first name, city and age instead, or use both.
- Photos are kept in encrypted storage; face data is destroyed within 3 years or sooner once it is no longer needed.
- Every result is a possible match, not proof that a post is about you.
- Tea App Checker is not affiliated with Tea.
How does a Tea app photo search work?
A Tea post usually includes a photo of the man it's about. A photo search compares the face in your photo with the faces in those post photos. When a face looks close enough, the post shows up as a possible match. You then see the post's photo for free, next to its first name, age, city, date, and comment and flag counts. That lets you judge with your own eyes whether it's you.
A name search works differently. It looks for posts that fit your first name, city and age. Both kinds of search run against the same Tea posts we can see.
When does a photo beat a name search?
A photo helps most when the words on a post don't match the words you'd type. That happens more than you'd think:
- Nicknames. "Mike" instead of Michael, or a joke name.
- Misspellings. "Jon" for John, "Brandan" for Brandon.
- No name at all. Some posts only show a photo.
- A guessed age. Women sometimes guess, and the age can be a few years off.
- A different city. A post may name the city next to yours, or where you used to live.
In each case a name search can miss, while your face still matches.
Which photo should I use?
The clearer the face, the better the comparison. Use a photo that is:
- Face forward. Looking at the camera, not in profile.
- Just you. No one else in the shot, so the search knows which face to use.
- Well lit. Daylight or a bright room. No heavy shadows.
- Recent. Close to how you looked when you were dating.
- Uncovered. No sunglasses, masks or big hats.
A photo from your own dating profile is often the best choice. That's the kind of photo women tend to post.
| Use | Avoid |
|---|---|
| A clear selfie, facing the camera | A group photo |
| A dating profile photo | Sunglasses or a hat covering your face |
| A recent photo | A photo from ten years ago |
| Good light | Dark, blurry or far away |
Whose photo can I use?
Only add a photo of yourself, or of someone you are legally allowed to act for. A photo search exists so you can check whether you've been posted. It isn't for looking up other people.
How is my photo handled?
Your photo is used to compare faces for your search. If you use your camera, it only turns on after you tap to use it, and your browser asks you to allow it. Photos are kept in encrypted storage; face data is destroyed within 3 years or sooner once it is no longer needed. The Biometric Notice and the privacy policy have the full details. You can also ask us to remove your saved details on the delete my data page.
Can a photo search get it wrong?
Yes, in both directions, so read every result with care.
- Lookalikes. Two men can look alike in a small photo. Check the city, age and date too.
- Old or odd photos. A post may use a photo from years ago, or a bad angle, and be missed.
- New posts. A post made after your check won't be in it.
That's why every result is a possible match, not proof. Our guide Tea Checker Results Explained: What a Match or a Clean Result Means shows how to read each match.
Should I use a photo, a name, or both?
Both, if you can. Type your first name, the city where you date, and your age, then add a clear photo. The name catches posts with a poor photo. The photo catches posts with the wrong name or none. More tips for name searches are in How to Search the Tea App by Name (No Account Needed).

Common questions
Can I search the Tea app with a photo?
Not inside Tea, because men can't join. From the outside, Tea App Checker can compare a clear photo of your face with the faces in the Tea posts it can see. Most checks take about 10 seconds.
Is a photo search better than a name search?
A photo can find posts that use a nickname, a misspelled name or no name at all. A name search is quicker to start. Using both together gives the best chance of finding a post.
Whose photo can I use?
Only a photo of yourself, or of someone you are legally allowed to act for.
What happens to my photo?
